Pre-K Programs at KVPAC
There are three programs your Pre-K age child could enjoy and benefit from at KVPAC: The PreK@KVPAC, Mom & Me, and Art's Alive.
The PreK@KVPAC
At Katy Visual and Performing Arts Center, we believe the ARTS provide the tools for children to become responsible, self-confident, and capable adults. The PreK @ KVPAC is your child’s first step on this journey! The PreK @ KVPAC offers a unique learning experience for 3- to 4-year old children in a safe, nurturing, and creative environment where the Visual and Performing Arts form the basis and framework for all other academic and social learning.
Our program is designed to engage students in developmentally appropriate projects and play opportunities that encourage creative expression and individual growth. Learning objectives seek a balanced approach with an emphasis on Academic, Performance, Creative Arts Expression, and Social & Physical Development.
Students benefit from in-depth Arts experiences in the following focus classes (Let's Pretend, Fun with Music, and Paint to Mozart). Students showcase their artistry in a performance and exhibition upon the completion of each semester:
Let’s Pretend is designed as a gentle introduction to Theatre and Drama, them-based units complete with costumes, props, sets, music, visual arts activities, and creative movement. Includes all of our premiere programs wrapped into one dynamic experience: Let’s Pretend, Pink Art and Pretend, Paint to Mozart and Fun with Music.
Fun with Music emphasizes music concepts, dynamics, tempo, percussion and melodic instruments. Based on the Kodaly Method theory of teaching music literacy - this class is a preparation ground for formal piano and music lessons.
Paint to Mozart set to the beat of classical music, students create 2 and 3-dimensional art projects. Students explore line, color, shape, form, texture, and composition as they experiment, and refine their skills using a wide variety of materials.
Classes maintain a minimum 6:1 student to teacher ration. Instructors hold a minimum 4-year degree and/or teacher certifications. Focus classes in the Arts are taught by specialists and professional in their respective fields.
Within this framework, students will
- Learn concepts related to letters, numbers, size, color, and shape;
- Learn relationships between speech and written words;
- Build emergent math and reading skills through hands-on, theme related experiences;
- Use scientific methods to examine, predict, and draw conclusions while exploring the environment;
- Explore a variety of Visual and Performing Arts media in creative, self-expressive projects;
- Increase capacity for listening and communication;
- Refine motor skills through use of concrete and interactive materials including games, outdoor play, and creative movement;
- Participate as active members of a group;
- Learn appropriate classroom behavior including following rules, directions, and taking turns;
- Adapt to routines;
- Decrease separation anxiety from parents and caregivers;
- Develop attention span appropriate to age;
- Gain a sense of responsibility for consequences of individual actions;
- Prepare for future learning by developing curiosity, confidence, independence, and resourcefulness;
and Have fun while Learning!
