Katy Visual & Performing Arts Center (KVPAC)

Books Alive! is an interactive educational experience where students enjoy the magic of live theatre, books and best of all… discover the joy of reading. Books Alive! can either be a field trip to KVPAC or the program travels to off-site to your location. Books Alive! begins with a professional musical production based on the featured book and is followed by a rotation of up to 4 academic workshops in: Music, Visual Arts, Stagecraft and Creative Writing. Workshops are designed to support literacy objectives through cross-curriculum activities. In two of the workshops (Visual Arts and Creative Writing), each student contributes to collaborative projects to commemorate their trip: a large professionally framed piece of artwork (art class) and a co-authored hard-bound original book (Creative Writing class). Program options include scheduling just a performance or a performance followed by 1 – 4 workshops of your choice.

Grant funding may be available to schools (private and public), non-profit organizations and day care centers serving children ages 3-8. Priority is given to students who are financially disadvantaged, considered at-risk, under served or have special needs.
