KVPAC Art Academy Classes

The Art Academy is designed to build step-by-step artistic knowledge and skill development through progressive courses, which meet once a week from October through May.  It is divided into four age appropriate levels that offer individualized instruction by highly qualified Artist/Instructors geared to take your child's talent to the next level.

While many of the courses offered at KVPAC are 'product' oriented, meaning that several hours in class can produce a guided and 'finished' project to send home, Art Academy takes as its charge the responsibility to produce fabulous artists not just art projects by focusing on the art process.  Students will gain an insight into the characteristics of each of the art materials they use as they refine their skills of craftsmanship and design. Some will choose to apply this knowledge to create realistic renderings of subjects; others may choose to work more abstractly.  "What I love about Art Academy is the environment it provides for the kids to have fun, make friends, and discovers their talents," says instructor Michelle Barnett.  "I find that every student has an innate seed of creativity waiting to be watered. The projects are designed to give every child an opportunity to find the medium that best suites them while exploring a variety of others as well.  It is my challenge to develop projects that stimulate their artistic energy and provide them with new insight into the wonderful world or art."

Over the course of the school year, students will have the opportunity to use the art material of their choice and to explore the subject matter that they want, we merely invite all students be open to exploration and let go of the pressure to make art that fits only one fixed concept of what art should be.  Each student's growth will become more and more apparent and as parents you will see this at the end of each term.  Art Academy (soon to wrap up its successful pilot year) culminates every semester with a Gallery Event, when all class-produced artwork is proudly exhibited.
