Erin Fry,
Visual Arts Director
Erin Fry had the amazing gift of growing up in a multi-generational family of artists. A native of Houston, she grew up in the Sugar Land area home schooling most of High School. While attending University of Houston, Erin taught with Arts a la Carte; a small arts school in the Greenspoint area. There, as department director, she learned about lesson planning and curriculum development as well as staff management and school/family relations. The school closed in 2004 and Erin transferred over to The River Performing and Visual Arts Center teaching special needs children, high risk children, and their families. She has also taught Theatre with Fort Bend Community Theatre, Cast Theatrical Company, and TUTS Humphries School of Musical Theatre.
Erin's personal artistic focus is on textile and fabric arts, recycled arts, painting, photography and metalsmithing. The majority of her artwork is accompanied by lyrics or poetry she has written for the pieces. Also, incorporating her performing arts background into her art, she often appears as a performance painter for concerts and events.
In her spare time, Erin is still heavily involved in teaching and exposing art to both her own child and others. She has traveled as far as Tyler, Texas to teach art workshops to both children and parents and hosts "art time" play dates in her home for her young son and his friends. Erin is currently working on a book with her sister, a fellow art teacher and owner of The Crayon Box Studio, for "non-artistic" parents on encouraging creativity in their families.
